Summer Camp 2011
Saturday 23rd
The Scouts and most of the Explorers and Leaders travelled to camp in Leaders' vehicles but some Explorers and Leaders had to travel by train. Once at the camp site setting up camp and cooking the evenign meal took up the rest of the day
Sunday 24th
The mornign was spent finishing setting up camp, building camp gadets and putting up area posts etc. In the afternoon we went to the RAF museum at RAF Cosford.
Monday 25th
We sepnt the whole day at the West Midland's Safari Park which was right next to the camp site. We saw lots of exotic animals on the safari and then enjoyed the small theme park as well as the meerkat and lemur enclosures.
Tuesday 26th
The main activity of the day was a walk along the Severn Valley before we caught a train on the Severn Valley Steam Railway back up the valley to near where we started the walk.
Wednesday 27th
The highlight of the camp for some of the Scouts & Explorers was a trip to Cadbury's World in Bourneville. They saw some of the packaging processes, learnt about the history of Cadbury's chocolate and even got free chocolate bars but that didn't stop them attempting to buy the shop out of chocolate!
Thursday 28th
The mornign was spent on the assault course at the camp site including a team challnge to transport a bucket of water around the course. This led to some wet and muddy Scouts & Explorers! The afternoon activity was a trip to the nearby swimming pool which had two slides and a wave machine.
Friday 29th
The day was spent at the Black Country Living Museum including a trip down the old mine canals. Activities included having a go at 'legging' the canal barge, exploring the historical shops (inc the sweet shop), an underground mine tour, a old fashioned fair ground and a ride on a tram. We also invested a new Scout at the museum.
Saturday 30th
The Saturday was an action packed day of onsite activities. First off their was mountain biking run by instructors which started off with a skills session (slow races and slalom races) before a ride on an area adjacent to the site. After lunch it was archery and air rifles before finsing off with grass sleding, all terrain boarding and a massive water slide. In the evening we enjoyed a fish & chip supper by the river in nearby Bewdley
Sunday 31st
The day was spent clearing up and packing up camp prior to our depature back to Leeds.
